Saskblogs Meeting

I had a very fun time at the Saskblogs lunch that took place today at noon. I got to meet up with new to me bloggers including the authors of huffb1, the atheist conservative and this hapax legomenon. I also got reacquainted with the excellent blogger Twyla of newsong (sweet layout!) and, of course, Saskboy. And then some guy sat next to me, whats-his-name? Oh yeah my life partner (boyfriend) who writes the excellent blog located at The Zach Bell Show. There are some obviously diverging viewpoints at these excellent blogs, which is what makes the blogosphere so darned entertaining, even if it’s “the not-so-real-world of the blogosphere” as Murray Mandryk claims. I was trying to link to his article that was in the Star Phoenix on Friday, October 18th but I can’t find it anywhere. Oh well, I could always scan the newspaper article with that exact quote in it to prove myself right. Anyway, the kids are nagging me to help them go do fliers and are threatening me with bodily harm so I better get off of this computer. In the meantime, I will post the John Cleese youtube clip that my darling life partner wanted to see. So this post is really random and useless but hopefully entertaining.

Update: I de-linked the atheist conservative site, since Saskboy informed me that I got the wrong site. Well then, what site is his? I guess I better run over to Saskboy or Zach Bell’s sites to figure it out.

This post isn’t about any elections

I am so sick of them so I won’t talk about them anymore. Look here is a picture of something awesome that I like.

Remember when I said I made my kids get a flier route and then I complained about the wankstain that posted his over-priced piece of crap on kijiji? Well, I bought this baby for $30 and it’s awesomeness. I am so happy I could jump for joy.

I know that all four of my readers are jealous of me right now. Read and weep and drool with envy!

Oh and before I forget to continue to brag shamelessly, I took this pic with my brand new Crackberry. I have been feeding my technology addiction quite nicely.

Who Won the 2008 Canadian Election?

Dated: 15 Oct 2008

The newspapers and the radios and the TV would all have you believe that the Conservatives won a minority government. They are wrong, wrong, wrong.

We all lost. Democracy is a joke. There are more Green party supporters than Bloc Quebecois and yet they didn’t win a single seat. Unless you vote for the winning party, your vote doesn’t count. Don’t ever let anybody try to tell you any differently. They don’t know what they are talking about. Demand electoral reform now. As Saskboy says, Canadian democracy is 8% away from being completely illegitimate.

The election was completely useless and a waste of my time, money and mental energy. I will now concern myself with more important things, such as the lint in my belly button.

UPDATE: Even if you didn’t vote, you still have the right to complain. Lucky for me, I did vote and I will continue to complain.

Post-Thanksgiving Post

*As taken from the awesomest blog in the universe, I blame the patriarchy.

I hope that all three people who are reading this blog and actually care about my opinions are having fun digesting their turkey and cranberry stuffing. But lo and behold! Here I come to destroy all that goodwill and gratefulness you experienced as you spent time with your loved ones, with a Thanksgiving post that reminds you all, that Thanksgiving represents the patriarchy squared. Anyway, I am tired and I have to prepare for another day as a loyal employee of the public school board. So instead of providing a substantive post repudiating Thanksgiving, I will link to a wonderful, though absent, blogger, who expresses my Thanksgiving misgivings much better than I ever could. Enjoy!

What is wrong with school?

This is a question that I have struggled with over the past year.   I love working with kids and I love teaching and learning, so wouldn’t working for the public school board with young people be the perfect job for me?  You would think so, wouldn’t you, but there are many things that I have witnessed throughout my career that made me reconsider.  Last year, I was working in a grade ten science class and I had one of those “A-HA!” moments that made me wonder if public education, as it is currently experienced by students, is really “inspiring learning”.   Read more…

I hate Conservative Propaganda

Dated: 11 Oct 2008

I am so completely sick and tired of elections.  Palin this and Obama that.  Bigotted anti-French smears and attack ads pervade my mailbox.  Luckily I found a radio station on my tape deck, 98.3 FM that does not play attack ads or any political ads of any kind.  But still, the blogosphere is full of this crap.  KKKate is smearing Dion in a fabricated gotcha moment caused by an incompetent journalist who has not yet mastered the English language. I refuse to link to Kate but I will post the youtube video, as it shows CTV’s coverage.  Here is a link to a blog with the original footage.

Seriously, quit falling for this crap.  It’s manufactured garbage.  This isn’t news and this is not why this election matters.  Find out what the parties want to do for you by reading their platforms and deciding who will do the best job of representing your community.  Quit watching television.  There is no substance to any of it.  CTV is nothing but a Conservative propaganda machine.  They were trying to make Dion look bad by making the question confusing.  I had no idea what the reporter was talking about and English is my first language.   No party is perfect on all the issues.  For example, I am not thrilled about the long-gun registry but the fact is, the Tories have no intention of undoing the long-gun registry.  They are happy to let the left do the dirty work of allienating Western Canadians and stirring up racist and otherist sentiments.  We don’t need a long-gun registry but maybe we should do a better job of letting these party hacks know what it is that we want.  Demand better.  At least Lizzie May has much better ideas about the environment and electoral reform, which is desparately needed so we don’t have to resort to these voter swaps to thwart the really bad evil mini Bush government.

We should just boycott all the propagandists that are running these ads.  Enough already!  That’s it, no more CTV for you.

I have for you today a wonderful article written by Dan Gardner about the global failure of the war on drugs and the reasons why opium production has soared in Afghanistan.  I really enjoyed and I hope you do too.
