Asian Taste

At the Saskbloggers lunch last weekend, we went to Jerry’s Food Emporium on 8th street. While I do like their food, I find it is tasteless, white, honky food. I had their Thai Chicken salad and it was terrible. The noodles were tasteless and bland and the sauce was watered down, inauthentic pap. But what do you expect from a family restaurant? At least their burgers are edible. I need something with a lot more kick. I suggested that the next time we get together we go to Asian Taste. They serve authentic East Indian and Pakistani food that will blow your doors off. Here is their menu. If you like spicy, curried food, then I would recommend the Dal Masala aka curried lentils. I especially love their vegetable samosas and spring rolls. They aren’t very spicy but I fixed that by soaking them in a whole lot of hot sauces. Yummy!

My kids hate flavorful food, and have no interest in eating any of the tasty yummies. They don’t serve french fries, hamburgers or chicken fingers. Thank the sky fairies for that! This is not a restaurant you want to bring small, picky eaters to. Even though I think grading is a waste of time, I know that anybody reading this crummy review will expect it, so I guess I have to give it 5 stars. Just go eat there already, what are you waiting for? Get off this idiot box computer and go get some tasty yummies now! I will even give you directions.

Here is their address:

Asian Taste
101 3rd ave North
Saskatoon, SK
Phone : 477-1044

But if that proves unhelpful, I will give you directions that any true Saskatonian can appreciate. It’s across the street from this thing. What’s it called?

Oh yeah, the Sturdy Stone Centre. It’s across the street from the Sturdy Stone Centre in the strip mall.

If you still need help finding it, there is no hope for you.

Random Stuff

Just a few of the things that I found on the internet that are mighty interesting to me. First of all, check out this site Stop Jenny McCarthy about the scare surrounding immunizations and the latest nut who is doing the talk-show circuit to promote whatever snake-oil medicine is popular this season. It’s Jenny McCarthy, current tool of the patriarchy, capitalizing on parental hopes and fears. She should be ashamed of herself. The only problem is, she probably believes that she is doing the right thing.

And here is another Sarah Haskins video. I am a huge fan of her stuff so of course I am going to post it. I got this from feministing.

Here is another fantastic performance by Tina Fey in the role of Governor Sarah Palin that I stole from pharyngula. I agree with PZ that they should have left Palin out of the sketch.

Also, I ordained oops I mean suggested that we find a different location for the next SaskBloggers meeting. We have to go to Asian Taste! But first I will have to do an Asian Taste post with all the goodies on it. It will be my very first review post. And it will rock, as does everything that I do.

At the Saskblogs lunch Twyla and I ended up discussing education. She was home-schooled when she was young and is full of stories about her personal educational experiences. I really do hope that she turns these into blog-posts, but I know that she is incredibly busy these days with her studies. Anyway, I am less busy, all I have is a job and a family and a horse in another town. I have plenty of free time to post about education. So I better do my share and make sure to get this conversation started.

This post isn’t about any elections

I am so sick of them so I won’t talk about them anymore. Look here is a picture of something awesome that I like.

Remember when I said I made my kids get a flier route and then I complained about the wankstain that posted his over-priced piece of crap on kijiji? Well, I bought this baby for $30 and it’s awesomeness. I am so happy I could jump for joy.

I know that all four of my readers are jealous of me right now. Read and weep and drool with envy!

Oh and before I forget to continue to brag shamelessly, I took this pic with my brand new Crackberry. I have been feeding my technology addiction quite nicely.

The Secret Life of the American Teenager

I found this show on youtube yesterday and I have to say I really like it.  It’s not often that I will post on this blog to say that I like something because I hate most things.  Most television shows are vapid, horrible garbage that will rot your brain.  However, this show is clever and funny and it brings up many issues close to the hearts of many modern teenagers.

I love the plotlines running through the show.  All the teenagers are given abstinence only education but few practice it in real life.  The beautiful, blonde, christian, all-American teenage girl has taken off her promise ring.  What could this possibly mean?  Will Amy have sex and turn into a whore?  Will she get pregnant?  Will she enjoy it?  All the adults are running around saying “Just say no!” and all the kids are either doing it or thinking about doing it.  The guys that have sex are dangerous lotharios that trick the poor innocent young foolish girls into having sex.  The boys are studs and the girls are sluts.  Just like in the real world, sex turns everybody into moronic, raving lunatics.   I notice that none of the guys in the show wear promise rings but the girls do.  The slut-shaming about sex and the hypocrisy of all the adults absolutely kills me.

I absolutely love the scene in this show where the over-bearing father tries to control his young teenage daughter that he does not know because he has spent no time with her and did nothing to parent her while she was growing up.  He has made some life choices that he does not approve of and he feels that he needs to step in and set the young lass straight.  A young teenage girl can not make the choice to use birth control and have safer sex for her own pleasure.  No!  She needs her Daddy to tell her that she doesn’t need to have sex and to send her off to an all-girl school.  Sex is always degrading to a girl, after all.  She may think she is having sex for her own pleasure but she is wrong, wrong, wrong.  Teenage girls can’t possibly have sex without consequences.  It really hit home with me because control of female sexuality is a cornerstone of female oppression.  Here is a perfect example of it.  What young woman has ever felt free of male judgment for exercising her free will and agency, especially when it comes to her sexuality?  When she tells her Dad to get out of her life, Adrian spoke for any young woman who wants to have sex without being judged for it.

Here is episode 11. It is posted in five parts, which I have taken the liberty of posting here for your viewing pleasure.
